For anyone that is still undecided what type of paint to use to begin with, I would suggest to start with acrylic paint. The reason is simple, acrylic paint is easy to work with where you have better control over your paint. With new acrylic mediums that are out there you are now able to prolong the workability of your acrylic paint, you can build nice structures using molding pastes that are also made for acrylics and much much more.
I would also suggest to try to practice with watercolors on paper. Learning to mix colors, trying out different color combinations, building a nice background for your artwork. When you get a good understanding and experience with watercolors, acrylics you might as well try out painting with oil paint.
